ABOUT ACS

Who We Are

Advanced Catalyst Systems, LLC (ACS) is a vertically integrated catalyst manufacturer and supplier for a wide variety of industries and applications, including power generation, internal combustion engines, catalytic oxidizers, and inert gas production plants. We also manufacture the award winning platinum bright embers sold for gas fireplaces on 3 continents.

ACS has integrated each step of the catalyst manufacturing process into our manufacturing facility in Maryville, TN. Producing all sheet metal components, catalyst precursors, and precious metal formulations in house allows us to be the low cost producer and to respond rapidly to design changes and requests for prototype development. ACS maintains a captive laboratory for catalyst testing, design, and optimization.

ISO-9001 Certified

  • ACS is proud to conform to ISO-9001 certification standards.

  • Our catalytic heaters are Factory Mutual Certified for Class I, Division 1&2, Group D hazardous locations.

Our Founder and CEO

Larry and Doug Campbell
Larry and Doug Campbell

Dr Larry Campbell's career began with research in surface chemistry at Corning, Inc, ultimately promoted to lead a group developing catalysts for automobile emission control. Following his tenure at Corning, he joined Engelhard as manager of all precious metal catalyst and chemical research. At Engelhard, he managed catalyst research and development for both automotive and stationary power sources, including oxidation catalystics, three-way or stoichiometric catalysts, and selective catalytic reduction for nitrogen oxide abatement.

He was promoted to General Manager of the Chemical Catalyst Department with profit and loss responsibility for chemicals and catalysts used for chemical synthesis and marketed for pollution control.

Dr Campbell was promoted first to Vice President and then Group Vice President with worldwide responsibility for Engelhard’s electronic materials business.

He left Engelhard to be president of a venture capital backed technology driven company developing and making materials for advanced composites.

In 1988 Dr Campbell co-founded Advanced Catalyst Systems, Inc., in order to serve the needs defined by the Clean Air Act of 1990. He developed and patented catalysts for nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur oxide abatement from combustion exhaust. This technology formed the technical basis of a joint venture company now known as EmeraChem, which was formed to provide the technology to the gas turbine power co-generation markets. Dr Campbell served as co-CEO and as Chief Technical Officer for EmeraChem before returning to ACS in 1998.

Dr Campbell's son, Doug Campbell, is President of ACS and Director of Sales.
